Operating with Respect
A surgeon is only as good as their team. This includes the anaesthetist, the nursing staff in the pre-op area, the operating theatre, recovery area and the wards. Many other staff work tirelessly behind the scenes to make this all possible too, such as the hospital orderlies. Allowing a environment in which there is open communication is crucial to good outcomes in surgery as well as for patient satisfaction. The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons recognises this with their Operating with Respect course.
